Obituary for Harry W. Dorcas

Harry W. Dorcas peacefully passed away at his home on September 24, 2016 surrounded by his devoted family. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Etta Jo; son Russell (his wife Melissa,Granddaughter Ashley Fessler (her husband Daniel, great grandchildren Silas & Selah) granddaughter Asia, and grandson Solomon),son Eric “Rick” (his wife Luella, grandson Corey), David (his wifeTerri, granddaughter Kayleigh Otero (her husband Conner), Tiffany Daffron (her husband Ben,great granddaughter Addison), and grandson Chase); son Michael (his partner Patti); and sister, Susan Stapes ( her husband Ron) and many beloved nieces and nephews. Harry is preceded in death by infant son, Corey; mother; father; and four brothers; and one sister. Harry’s appreciation for family began at a young age when he and his siblings lost their father early in life. Bringing his mother and sister to Albuquerque from Ohio in late 1950's, Harry initially joined his brothers in Dorcas Painting. In the early-1970’s Harry W. Dorcas Painting Company was formed, providing uncompromising excellence in residential painting all over the Albuquerque area for decades. With the beautiful love of his life, Etta Jo, they began raising a family that would grow and credit both of them for the rest of their lives. He instilled in his children a staunch work ethic, a passion for muscle cars (owning, maintaining and racing “go 96”) and above all, the value of “family first”. There was no sweeter sound to him than that of his children’s sports and musical activities. Sometimes when the boys would see his car turn the corner onto their street, they would run alongside his car all the way home to greet him. Harry’s retired years were spent presiding at every family gathering he could arrange, cheering on his New England Patriots and “sort of being a big deal” to so many friends and family. Friends are invited to visit 1 hour prior to the Funeral Service Friday, September 30, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque.
