Obituary for Fredene Isis "Fritz" Frye

Fredene Isis “Fritz” Frye, age 96, passed away on December 7, 2016, in Albuquerque, NM.

She was born in Greybull, WY to Frederick James McCreedy and Iris Sophia Lincoln McCreedy on June 17, 1920. She grew up in Wyoming and western Montana attending schools in Missoula and Kalispell. In 1941, at the age of 21, she left Montana for Tacoma, Washington looking for work.

In 1942, Fredene's brother, Clel, was serving in the Navy at the beginning of WWII and had been captured in the Philippines so she tried to join the Navy as a WAVE. The recruiters "were not to interested" at that time, so she went down the hall to the Army recruiting office and joined the newly formed WAAC (Women's Army Auxiliary Corp). In September of 1943 the WAAC was converted to full military status as the WAC (Women's Army Corp). While she was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA, she met George Franklin Frye, a Chief Machinist Mate, who was stationed at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard. They were married in LaCrosse, WI on December 29, 1943. Fritz was a Sergeant, by the end of WWII and was discharged from the Army at Fort Sam Houston, TX, on December 16, 1945.

In 1953, the family of three moved to Miles City, MT where her husband was a Navy recruiter. After his retirement in 1957, they settled in Glasgow, MT, where they finally retired in 1969. Fritz and Frank traveled around the country, finally stopping in Fayetteville, AR where they bought a farm near Strickler, AR on Bug Scuffle Rd. After the death of her husband, she moved to Albuquerque in 1981 to be near her son, Fred and her mother.

Fredene was a Charter Member of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C. and served as Secretary of the Albuquerque WAC Organization for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Franklin Frye; her brother, Orin Clel McCreedy who died as a Japanese POW in WWII; and two grandsons, Bradley Russell Frye and Brian Franklin Frye. She is survived by her son, Fred and his wife, Vicki and their children, Tracy Alan Logan, Kenneth Michael Logan, Jody Ann Anderson, Jackson William Glenn and their families.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services are pending.

Fredene chose her final resting place to be near her grandsons in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Albuquerque, NM.
