Obituary for
Sue Daulton
Sue M. Daulton, 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 4, 2017. Sue was born in northwest Arkansas on January 16, 1926 to Charles and Edna Marshall. After spending her early childhood in Rogers, AR, her family moved to Albuquerque in 1938. With the exception of a year at Christian College in Missouri, she spent the rest of her life in Albuquerque. She graduated from Albuquerque High in 1943, and after her year away, studied at the University of New Mexico where she was an Alpha Chi Omega. She married Paul Daulton in December of 1946 shortly after he returned from serving in the south Pacific with the U.S. Navy. They were married over 60 years when Paul passed away in 2007. Sue’s parents purchased the Seven-up Bottling Company in 1938, and it remained in the family until 1980. Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her brother, John Marshall and sister-in-law, Marie Marshall. She is survived by her son, Tom, and daughter-in-law, Jan Daulton and their three children, Neal, Mary Cole, and Carter of Dallas. She is also survived by her nieces, Linda Marshall and Jan Marshall Thomson and their respective families.
Sue loved life – she loved to laugh and a funny remark could easily bring her to tears. She was caring, sensitive, and always pulling for the underdog. Her gift of sarcasm occasionally hid her softer side, but a quick smile always revealed it. She was happiest when she was busy. In her early years she was active with the Junior League of Albuquerque, and was active with PEO for over 60 years. She cherished her friendships with the sisters of Chapter V. In the late 1950’s, she and Paul and several other families were founding members of the Tennis Club of Albuquerque. Lifelong friendships were established and never forgotten. With the sale of the Seven-up Company, Sue and Paul transitioned to golf. They were long-time members of the Albuquerque Country Club, and had a home at Pendaries Village in near Rociada, NM. Although they traveled extensively, they loved their thirty plus years in northern New Mexico. Much to Paul’s dismay, Sue had the only family hole-in-one on number 12 at Pendaries. In addition, Paul and Sue were passionate followers of Lobo athletics. They were football and basketball season holders beginning in the early 1960’s. Sue regretfully gave up her basketball season tickets after the 2015 season. They were long-time members of the Lobo Club, supporters of the UNM Presidential Scholarship Program, and supporters of the athletic department’s fifth year scholarship program. Sue was also passionate about supporting UNM’s college of nursing and was recognized at their 60th anniversary as a special friend. In her later years, Sue loved her bridge games and the ladies she played with. Saturday afternoon bridge games at the Country Club were special. She also routinely beat Tom at gin rummy. And her grandchildren would like to point out that she held the house record on the pinball machine.
The family would like to thank Comfort Keepers for their incredible care and loving attention, specifically Kaye, Amy, Heidi, Marie, and Joanne. Also, special thanks to the staff at UNMH, led by Judith Harris. Sue was buried February 7, 2017. A Memorial and Celebration of her Life will be March 6, 2017, 10:30 a.m. at the Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM.
