Obituary for Theodore R. Schmidt

Theodore Reinold Schmidt, Jr., our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend of many, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
Theodore was born in Redlands, California on August 28, 1938. After serving in the Army, he graduated from the University of Arizona with a PhD in nuclear engineering. He worked at Sandia National Laboratory for 32 years until his retirement in 2002 and was also a member of the American Nuclear Society. Theodore was completing a book on some of his pivotal work at the time of his death.
The verse on the wall in his office reads, “Whatever gift each of you may have received, use it in service to one another. (1 Peter 4:10)” Theodore lived out this verse in greater and greater ways during his retirement. He worked harder in retirement than in his career and he died doing what he loved. He was proud of and loved his children and grandchildren and deeply loved his wife.
Theodore was preceded in death by his mother and father, Winifred and Theodore Schmidt; his niece, Kayla Foster, and his nephew, Kendrick Grauberger. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janice; his son, Theodore; his daughters, Jan Miller (Robb) and Johanna Luzier (Jeremy); three grandchildren, Rory Luzier, Joy Miller and Matthew Miller and his sister, Jo Grauberger (Derald).
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Westside. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to The Ranger Heritage Foundation, one of Theodore’s main projects in his retirement. Checks may be sent to 12 Dustin Court, Placitas, NM 87043.
